Prophet Yahya (John) was the son of the Prophet Zachariah. In the Qur'an the Prophet Yahya is not much elaborated, he described only blessed with wisdom and science during childhood. He is respectful to her parents, and not overbearing or disobedience. He was smart and sharp thinking, worshiping day and night.

Among the children of Israel, he was known as a theologian and memorized the Torah. He dared to take a decision, do not be afraid disrepute, and ignored the threat the authorities in their efforts to uphold the truth. He encourages people to repent, and as a sign, he converts bathing in the river Jordan, which is actually a large shower, and called baptism in Christianity.

The story of Prophet Yahya

The story of Prophet Yahya integral to the story of her father (Prophet Zachariah). The prophet Zechariah was sent to the children of Israel when disobedience, kemungkaran, kezhaliman, and damage rampant among them. In addition, the Kings also cruel and injustice reigned there and always do damage. Herod, ruler of Palestine is the most evil king and like to break. It was he who ordered the killing of the Prophet and the Prophet Yahya Zakaria.

The prophet Zechariah started preaching by inviting his people to worship Allah and warned them about the bad effects of their actions if not immediately repent. Although already withered and gray hair, he continued to preach calling on his people. Moreover, the Prophet Zachariah also never tired of praying to God so blessed with a son to succeed him in shouldering this missionary work after he died later. It is told in the word of God, "He (Zachariah) said:" My Lord, my bones are weakened and my head was overgrown with gray hair, and I've never been disappointed in praying to thee, my God. And indeed I was worried about mawaliku after me, while my wife is barren, so give me from You a son, who will inherit me and inherit most of the family of Jacob; and make it, my God, one who approves. "(QS. Maryam [19]: 4-6).

Allah then granted his request. As his words, "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings will (receive) a child whose name is Yahya, who previously We have not been creating people who are similar to him." (QS. Maryam [19]: 7).

Prophet Yahya was born three months earlier than the birth of Christ. He subsequently brought up by his parents with kindness and piety, such as the word of God, "O Yahya, take (learn) the Book (Torah) that seriously. And We gave him (Yahya) wisdom while he was still a child "(QS. Maryam [19]: 12).

Since childhood, God has given him knowledge and wisdom and as an adult he became a prophet. Prophet Yahya is known for its gentle, full of affection, clean, neat, and ascetic. In addition, she was also crying for fear of Allah, always invites his people to repent and leave disobedience, and remind them of the consequences of their offenses. Prophet John baptized his people to wash their sins and their mistakes in the river Jordan (ash-Shari'ah) and he also baptized Jesus.

Prophet Yahya died were killed. It is narrated in a history that in those days, one of the famous king of evil and injustice, Herod wanted to marry a woman who is not lawful for him. The woman named Herodia that no other than the own niece, daughter of his siblings.

The woman was very beautiful; has the body and looks very attractive. Upon hearing the news, the Prophet Yahya prohibit spontaneous and opposed the marriage as well as the announced cancellation. Yahya's attitude was spread all over the city. Unhappy, she was planning to kill John. To fulfill his wish, Herodia primp meet uncle is none other than her husband with a face radiant and seductive. He then ensnare Herod with his uncle trickery to fall asleep with soft words. His uncle then asked, "What can I do for you?"

Herodia replied, "If my lord willing, I just want the head of Yahya bin Zakaria."

The king also granted the request of his future wife by sending someone to behead the Prophet Yahya. Allah says, "Verily, those who disbelieve in the verses of Allah and slay the prophets is not justified and kill the people who ordered man to do justice, then announce to them that they would receive a painful punishment." (QS. Ali-'Imran [3]: 21).

In Surat Maryam [19]: 7-15 verse, Allah SWT says:

O Zakaria! We give thee glad tidings will (receive) a child whose name is Yahya, who previously We have not been creating people who are similar to him. Zakaria said: "My Lord, how can I have a boy, when my wife is barren and I (myself) have reached a very old age". The Lord said: "So". Lord said: "It is easy for Me: and indeed I created you before, when you (at the time) do not exist at all". Zakaria said: 'Lord, give me a sign. " The Lord said: "The sign for you is that you can not carry on a conversation with a man for three nights, when you are healthy". Then he came out of the sanctuary toward his people, then he motioned to them; you shall glorify in the morning and evening. Hi John, take the Scripture (Torah) that seriously. And we gave him wisdom while he was still a child, and a deep sense of compassion from Us and purity (and sin). And he was a righteous and a devoted to his parents, and he was not an arrogant man sinful. Peace on him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he shall be raised alive.

In Surat Aali 'Imran (Ali' Imran) [3]: verse 39, Allah SWT says:

Then the angel (Gabriel) calls Zakaria, while he was standing praying in the mihrab (he says): "Allah is encouraging you to birth (a son has) Yahya, who confirmed the sentence (that comes) from Allah, be followup, a refrain (from lust) and a prophet of the descendants of the righteous ".

In Surah Al-An'aam (Al-An'am) [6]: verse 85, Allah SWT says:

Zakaria, Yahya, Isa and Ilyas. Everything including those pious.

In Surah Al-Anbiya (Al-Anbiya ') [21]: verse 90, Allah SWT says:

So We let do'anya, and We bestowed upon him Yahya and made his wife may be pregnant. Indeed, they are the ones who always hasten in (doing) good deeds, and they pray to Us with hope and fear. And they are the ones who humility 'to Us.
